The cellars are the origin of the Freixenet Group. Prior to the cellars Freixenet, a Sant Sadurní d’Anoia company dedicated to exporting wine to America managed by the Sala family, at the beginning of the XX century, joined the Ferrer couple from la Freixeneda, who were the owners of a farming estate in the Alt Penedès region.
Both families established Freixenet and dedicated all their efforts to produce sparkling wine made by the traditional method. A quality product and a dynamic and innovative commercial policy, both locally and internationally, characterised Freixenet since the beginning, which in 1935 already had a commercial presence in London and a branch in New Jersey. Fifty years later, consolidated in the external market, this vocational drive would lead to a huge export success. Since 1985 Freixenet has been the world’s leading sparkling wine producer.
